Contaminated Beer in Winston-Salem Causes 1 Death, 2 Serious Injuries

Light Draft cold beer pour in glass from crane in pub

Three men who drank beer on tap at Burke Street Pub in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, became violently ill and started vomiting only moments after having their first sip. They all reported that the beer was burning their throats and mouths. One of the men, Connor Sebastian, passed away from the contaminated beer, and the other two are presumed to have been hospitalized (full details on their conditions have not been released to the public yet).

Burke Street Pub had recently had its beer lines cleaned by a third-party company called Caffey Distributing. The bar believes a toxic cleaner must have been used and not improperly washed out of the beer lines before the cleaner concluded the work. Caffey Distributing has stated that it is investigating the incident but gave no further comment.

An investigation will be needed to determine what happened, why it did, and what parties could be liable for the injuries and wrongful death. The Forsyth County Department of Public Health could conduct its own investigation, too.
