After a heart-wrenching trial, a jury found Ghislaine Maxwell—former socialite, one-time girlfriend, and employee of millionaire Jeffrey Epstein—guilty on five out of six counts of sex trafficking, as reported by AP News.

Maxwell has been credited as a partner in Epstein’s sex trafficking operation, in which she lured in and groomed underage girls to be sexually abused and exploited by Epstein at his mansions in Florida, New Mexico, and New York. The youngest girl was only 14 years old at the time.

While not involved in the case, Lanier Law Group, P.A. congratulates the survivors who stood up for themselves, spoke out, and bravely testified in court. Having to recount some of the darkest, most traumatic times of their lives in front of a jury was, no doubt, a difficult feat. Because of their bravery, justice has been served.

“[Maxwell] has caused hurt to many more women than the few of us who had the chance to testify in the courtroom,” AP quoted one survivor as saying. “I hope that this verdict brings solace to all who need it and demonstrates that no one is above the law. Even those with great power and privilege will be held accountable when they sexually abuse and exploit the young.”

Pilots of Epstein’s private jets have also testified, alleging that they transported Prince Andrew of Britain and former American presidents Bill Clinton and Donald Trump.

Maxwell faces years of incarceration. She awaits a sentencing date, as well as another trial on two counts of perjury.

Survivors Deserve Justice

At Lanier Law Group, P.A., we were deeply saddened to hear of the childhoods ruined by the Epstein sex trafficking operation. As preeminent child sex abuse lawyers in North Carolina, we understand how challenging it can be for survivors to come forward—especially when the abuser was an American millionaire like Epstein. But let the Maxwell trial serve as an example of how the law applies to everyone, no matter how rich, influential, or powerful a person may be.
