School Bus Involved in Johnston County Accident

A school bus collided with an SUV just north of Selma, North Carolina on the morning of March 17. Several injuries were reported in the accident, including the driver of the school bus, the driver of the SUV, several adults in the SUV and a Nissan involved in the accident and several students riding on the school bus. The adults were treated at local hospitals, and all of the students’ injuries were minor in nature.

According to investigators, the driver of the Saturn SUV ran a stop sign at Browns Pond Road and cut right in front of the bus, which was heading to Selma Elementary School. The bus driver did not have enough time to react and hit the Saturn, with the collision forcing the passenger vehicle into a nearby building.

The Nissan involved in the accident was traveling north on State Highway 39 and struck the school bus after the initial Collison with the Saturn SUV. The bus finally came to rest shortly thereafter in a nearby field. The students who were uninjured were taken to school on another bus.

When children are injured on a school bus, families may need to seek compensation from a number of parties, depending on who was at fault in the accident. This may include the bus driver, bus company, other drivers and, if the crash happened due to poor road maintenance, a government agency.
