Three equipment manufacturers, along with Metro, have settled seven of the nine wrongful death lawsuits filed by families of the victims. The lawsuits resulted from a train accident that took the lives of nine people and injured dozens of riders. The rest of the cases, along with a personal injury lawsuit, are set to go to court. Metro has already stated that it would accept responsibility in those cases in order to prevent long trials in which every small detail would have to be rehashed.
The accident, which took place on June 22, 2009, marked a turning point for the transit authority. After the accident happened, there were serious changes in the top management tiers in addition to other reforms. In the meantime, passengers are still using the trains, but it is not a comfortable experience. Whereas the trains were once run automatically, they are now manually operated. Many passengers have complained about how jerky the riding experience can be with manual operators at the helm.
