Government Sued by Family of Border Patrol Agent

The federal government has been named in a wrongful death lawsuit by the family of a U.S. Border Patrol agent. It has become an issue of national concern as the focus shifts from the slain border agent to the larger issue at hand: should the government continue investigations such as the one that killed Officer B.T.?

Last week the attorneys for the family filed a 65-page document stating specifically why the family of B.T. feels that both they have been wronged. B.T. was killed in December 2010 while working in southern Arizona. According to the family, he got into a shootout with border bandits that had been sold firearms by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

This is an unusual story that has garnered national media attention. The Bureau was reportedly conducting an undercover investigation in which weapons were smuggled across the border into Mexico in order to catch big-time drug and arms dealers. Now, such investigations are being questioned entirely by the family in its wrongful death claim.
