Contractor Loses License Over Construction Accident

A contractor not only lost his license, but could also face jail time for his involvement in a construction accident. The contractor lost his license last week when the Contractors State License Board learned about a man being buried alive several years ago. The contractor was working on a job site in Milpitas in 2008 when the accident occurred. The victim, 39-year-old R.Z., was a carpenter working on the house being built.

At some point during the construction, a retaining wall fell down, burying the carpenter in the rubble. When the contractor filed his taxes for that year, he did not list having any employees on that job site. This violated state law in several ways, primarily in the fact that contractors are required to have insurance for all of their employees.
