Recently a family home in Lockport, New York, exploded because of a propane gas leakage, resulting in the death of a 14-year-old girl. The investigations are ongoing, though they have no results as to what ignited the fire in the first place. Jonathan F. Schultz, the head fire coordinator, is in charge of investigating the causes, and currently is looking into the home appliances within the home in hopes of finding the source. This case is being taken very seriously, with officials monitoring the home around the clock in order to make sure that no one can tamper with evidence if there is any on the site.
With these precautions being taken, the fire coordinator believes that propane was building up in their home over time, and something eventually set it off. Investigators also don’t know where the leakage of propane started from either; they do know that something else had to be involved in order for an explosion to happen. There have been similar cases involving propane accidents that these investigators have been working on. A case last year resulted in places charges on a burglar who damaged the gas pipes in the home, which then lead to a gas explosion. Whatever the case may be for this family, it is going to take some time to heal.
They were all caught in the terrible accident, father and son were released from the hospital soon after, the mother is still being treated though in fair condition. Their daughter that survived is in critical condition, suffering from bad burns, the other daughter Sarah, unfortunately did not make it. Investigations are still pending as to the sources of this misfortune; however, the community is coming around the Johnson family in this hard time.
