School and Auto Manufacturer Join Together for Driver Safety

A school of medicine will be working with a major car manufacturer to develop new safety innovations to be used in the automobile industry.

The school, located in North Carolina, was excited to announce this partnership last week to the press. Although they will be working together to learn more about a variety of driving-related issues, including accident reconstruction and driver education, they are eager to start working on crash reduction. By reducing driver distraction behind the wheel, the school and car company hope to protect the traffic populations that are at the most risk in a car accident: seniors, teens, children and pedestrians.

So far, their plan is two-fold. First, a faster emergency notification system will be tested in multiple vehicles. By providing a faster response in the case of a car accident, it is believed that these at-risk populations are more likely to survive an accident. This system will then be tested in simulations of real-world situations that could lead to car crashes.
