Over five years ago, twelve men lost their lives in a mine explosion. The last of the wrongful death suits filed for the accident will be considered in court this month.
A judge in West Virginia will decide whether to approve the final settlement between the families of six men who lost their lives and each party involved in the accident. These include the mine operator and the parent company that owns the mining operation. Several other minor defendants were involved in the claim as well.
Only one person survived the explosion that tore through the Sago Mine on January 2, 2006.
