A juror in a medical malpractice case attempted to bribe the victim's family in the hopes of fixing the verdict.
However, court officials realized what was happening and quickly detained Deonarine Persaud. According to Judge Dana Winslow, Persaud had been attempting to sway the jury in the hopes of getting a cash reward from the victim's family for a positive outcome in the trial.
The suit had been filed by a Massapequa hairstylist against her physician for medical malpractice, and was set to head to jury deliberation when the victim's family received a strange phone call the night before. The caller claimed to have new information in the case and asked to meet with the victim's father in a local Home Depot. What Persaud didn't realize was that he was caught on camera at the store, thus identifying him as the juror in question.
The Wigands notified their attorney about the strange incident and Persaud was later charged with felony bribe receiving.
