Two NASCAR Team Members Victims of Auto Accident

NASCAR fans were saddened to hear that two racing team members were severely injured or killed in a car accident last week.

A weekend car crash led to the death of Dean Shaut and the injury of Stephen Masch last Friday, the night before RWR was scheduled to compete in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Race at Darlington Raceway. The crash happened when a gray Toyota Tundra pickup truck struck a utility pole and a tree before flipping over several times. Officials released the information that Shaut was driving and died at the scene of the accident while his passenger was airlifted to a hospital in Winston Salem, N.C.

According to Masch's father, "He is in surgery today with a spinal cord injury to his C5 vertebrae. He is aware of his surroundings and that his mom and sister are at the hospital." But at this time, Masch is so heavily sedated that he is unable to move or communicate with his family members. Doctors believe that his lower extremities have suffered paralysis but are searching for any additional injuries as well.
