Pediatrician Accused of Medical Malpractice Commits Suicide

Authorities found a former pediatrician shot near his home last week by his own hand. Melvin Levine, 70, was at the center of an investigation for medical malpractice in which he had been accused of sexual misconduct with dozens of young boys in Massachusetts.

According to the state Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Chapel Hill, Levine shot himself in the head. The incident occurred near his home in Rougemont, which is located about 40 miles north of Raleigh. The news of his death came just one day after he received notice of the lawsuit wherein 40 former patients were accusing him of sexual abuse and medical malpractice. It goes on to say that, he conducted unnecessary genital examinations of male patients while he was a resident doctor at Children's Hospital in Boston between 1966 and 1985.

The lawyer representing the former patients is not returning any calls at this time.
