When a freight train hit a tractor trailer in Kings Mountain, emergency crews had their hands full as they responded to the collision.
According to police reports, 52-year-old Ljube Ilich drove his tractor-trailer at the crossing of Battleground Avenue, despite multiple posted signs preventing tractor-trailers from using that crossing. Due to its steep grade, the county ruled against trucks using Battleground Avenue crossing, a measure that was proven in full last week.
Since the accident, Ilich has been charged and fined $500 for driving his truck over the crossing. Luckily, nobody was hurt in the truck accident. Later into the investigation, officers learned that Ilich had gotten lost and missed the signs altogether. Since 2008, there have been at least three accidents at that same crossing.
