Liposuction Procedure Leads to Woman’s Death

After a liposuction procedure is believed to have claimed the life of a 28-year-old woman, the family is now suing the doctor responsible in a medical malpractice suit. When Aura Javellana went to the Sono Bello Body Contour Center, she asked to have liposuction performed on her upper arms and abdomen, a procedure that she paid $8000 for.

The medical staff, led by surgeon Marco Sobrino, failed to account for how much Lidocaine (an anesthetic) was injected into their patient. According to a report released by the Washington Medical Quality Assurance Commission, the doctor was unable to recall exactly how many bags of Lidocaine were used on Javellana.

Furthermore, when the procedure was finished Sobrino left the clinic without conducting any routine checkups on his patient which would have included giving her replacement fluids, as well as recording how much material was removed from her body.

When nobody came to pick Javellana up after the procedure, the staff at the medical center sent her home in a cab. She died the next day due of poisoning from Lidocaine.
