A grieving family filed a wrongful death lawsuit in Oakland against the man responsible for the death of their son. Nils Yannick Linke, 24, was killed when Joshua Calder, 36, knocked him off of his bicycle due to driving under the influence. Calder has already been charged with vehicular manslaughter and driving under the influence by local police.
Two more people have been included in the wrongful death suit as well, Nicole Mairs, Calder's girlfriend, and June Soelberg, Calder's grandmother and the owner of the 1989 Mercedes that was involved in the crash. Even though Mais took over the wheel after the crash and fled the scene with Calder, she has not yet been charged in this accident. However, according to a spokesperson for the San Francisco District Attorney's Office, she could still be charged at a later date.
In the meantime Calder has pleaded not guilty to all of the charges against him, including leaving the scene of an accident and driving under the influence.
