Two Women Killed in Single Vehicle Accident

Tragedy struck a few miles south of Rocky Mount when two women were killed in a single-vehicle accident last weekend.

The two women, Bridgette Teasley Russell, 49, and Sheila Maye Dozier, 50, were passengers in a Buick going north on 220, when the driver lost control of the vehicle. Mary McKethan Harper, 54, drove the car off of the highway where it then struck a concrete barrier. While Russell, traveling in the front, was wearing a seat belt, Dozier was not. According to Sgt. Rob Carpentieri of the Virginia State Police, both women were pronounced dead on the scene.

The driver was taken to Carilion Franklin Memorial Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. She has, however, been charged with reckless driving at this time. While Master Trooper Tim Harris is still investigating the case, it is possible that Harper could receive additional charges later on.
