A young athlete was struck and killed in a truck accident last week in North Carolina. The 19-year-old girl was on a training ride on her bicycle when she was hit by the truck driver.
According to the police report, the girl was riding in North Carolina when a young man driving a truck fell asleep behind the wheel. When he awoke, he had already struck the girl and crashed his vehicle. As a result, the fellow college student was charged with misdemeanor death by vehicle.
The young girl is missed by her college cycling team in North Carolina. She was an avid cyclist that competed at the USA Cycling National Championship and was training with her school team. She is also missed by her former cycling group in northern Texas where she used to train.
