Although she did not directly cause the death of a young girl, a 52-year-old woman has been charged in connection to her death. She was sentenced to 45 days behind bars as a result of serving alcohol to a minor.
The fatal car accident took place in February 2010. It took the lives of three people, two of whom were teenagers. The young woman who was driving the vehicle at the time was intoxicated as a result of being served alcohol at the woman's home. She was sentenced to 7 to 12 years behind bars after being found guilty of aggravated felony death by motor vehicle.
Since the woman served the driver alcohol, she was charged with three counts of aiding and abetting a person less than 21 years of age in possessing an alcoholic beverage. She entered a plea of no contest to the charges this week in a North Carolina court. In addition to jail time, the woman was sentenced to perform 200 hours of community service and will be on probation following her jail sentence.
